Whales And Dolphins Swimming Around Powell River Area Waters

A pod of 5 orcas (killer whales) were observed between Grant Reefs and Harwood Island. The whales were identified as being mammal-eating ‘transients’, as opposed to fish-eating ‘residents’.

A pod of perhaps 100 of Pacific White Sided Dolphins was observed a short distance from the harbour in Powell River. After the boat was stopped the dolphins changed course towards the boat, and swam past it or under it. In the background you can hear the Texada Island ferry approaching and then slowing on its approach to the ferry terminal.
