MV Tachek

A Tour of BC Ferries’ MV Tachek. Originally Built in 1969, she was built as the MV Texada Queen for use by the Ministry of Highways on the Powell River-Texada Island route.

During this time at an unknown date, she was renamed MV Tachek. She served the Texada route for 10 years until she was replaced by the North Island Princess. In 1985, the Ministry of Highways and BC ferries merged bringing operation of the Ministry’s vessels (including the Tachek) into BC Ferries’ hands.

In recent times, the Tachek can be seen operating on the Denman Island-Hornby Island route in the winter months. She is also a temporary replacement vessel for her sister ship, the Quadra Queen II on the Port McNeil-Sointula-Alert Bay route, she has also been used in the Southern Gulf Islands between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay and has replaced the North island Princess her original route of Powell River-Texada Island.
